What Is Talent Edge? Our Story

Originally founded in 2022 to meet the needs of our parent company, TGG Accounting, we set out to identify and place top-tier accounting and finance professionals for our clients. What began as an internal solution quickly revealed a greater opportunity—a growing demand for exceptional recruiting services across industries and skill sets.

As we worked to fill roles and build relationships, we realized our approach resonated far beyond the accounting and finance industries. By 2024, our team unlocked its full potential, expanding our reach to support clients across industries and job functions. We didn’t just grow—we transformed. Talent Edge Recruiting became a standalone business, offering a suite of professionalized services, including Direct Hire, Temporary Staffing, Temp-to-Hire, and Offshore Staffing.

The Talent Edge Management Team

Matt Garrett

Matt Garrett is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TGG. For over 20 years he has focused his career on the development of small business, personal finance and advanced tax and compensation issues. As a serial entrepreneur, Matt has founded and sold a number of businesses. He started his first business in college while attending Vanderbilt University and built and sold a couple more after that time. Calling on his own experience as a business owner and his desire to reduce the business failure rate, he founded TGG Accounting in 2006 to provide small to medium size businesses the vital financial infrastructure they need to succeed. Matt is a regular speaker across the country on behalf of Vistage educating business owners on the need for sound financial practices, and is Vice President of the Board of Directors of FINACA. Under Matt’s leadership, TGG has received the following recognition: INC. 5000 top companies in the U.S. five years in a row; one of “San Diego’s Fastest Growing Companies” the past four years; and is among San Diego’s “Best Places to Work.”

Laurel Swanson

Laurel Swanson is the Chief Operating Officer and a partner at TGG. Since joining the company as an assistant to the business owner, Laurel has progressed through the ranks, leveraging her operational expertise to manage a wide range of business functions. She has successfully overseen HR, IT, Legal, Learning and Development (TGG U), and the internal accounting department, playing a pivotal role in the company’s day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning.

In her role as COO, Laurel focuses on driving operational efficiency and enhancing productivity across the organization. She spearheaded key initiatives that streamlined workflows, resulting in cost savings and performance improvements. One of her signature achievements includes the development and expansion of TGG U, the company’s learning and development program, which has fostered a culture of continuous growth and upskilled employees at all levels and increased employee satisfaction and retention at a remote workplace.

Her broad responsibilities also encompass legal compliance and risk management, where Laurel ensures the company operates within regulatory frameworks and mitigates potential business risks. With a strong background in cross-functional leadership, she collaborates closely with senior leadership to align operational strategies with overarching business goals.

Laurel’s journey from an assistant to a leadership role is a testament to her commitment, resilience, and ability to deliver results. Her vested interest in the company, as demonstrated by her ownership stake, aligns personal and organizational success, contributing to the business’s ongoing growth and sustainability.

Robert Rodrigues

Bringing a background in executive management, internet marketing, and sales leadership, Robert Rodrigues has a proven track record of scaling revenue and profits for industry-leading organizations. He played a pivotal role in growing the employee base from a small team to over 150 employees with offices on both coasts. Our COO is renowned for his creativity and data-driven approach to enhancing product offerings. At HUB, he is inspired by the exceptional team and is passionate about helping business owners achieve their goals through improved financial management & decision-making.

Andrew Ruff

Before joining Talent Edge Recruiting, Andrew served as Controller and Budget Officer in the Marine Corps and was responsible for annual operating budgets in excess of $125 million per year. As President and CFO of TGG, Andrew focuses on being the CFO for TGG as well as for his clients. Andrew also supports team members as one of the San Diego Managing Directors and oversees the operational aspects of the team.

Andrew enjoys his staff and the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with clients that withstand the test of time. Andrew lives Talent Edge Recruiting’s mission by making a positive impact on the lives of business owners. Andrew and his staff get to know their clients on a personal level, so it’s rewarding to see them realize the goals they had set out to achieve. Outside of work, Andrew enjoys being outdoors, camping and backpacking.

Nicole O'Neil

Nicole brings a unique blend of sales expertise, operational acumen, and a passion for connecting exceptional talent with thriving businesses. A first-generation American and college graduate, Nicole’s journey is a testament to hard work, determination, and a passion for creating opportunities for others.

Nicole began her career straight out of college as a recruiter at a large staffing agency, where she quickly made her mark by being promoted into sales in less than a year. She also earned the prestigious “Contest” award, recognizing top-performing billers. These experiences shaped her ability to learn the ins and outs of recruiting and sales while understanding how to drive growth and deliver exceptional client service.

Nicole later joined a start up recruiting firm and played a pivotal role in scaling the company to a team of over 60 employees, driving operational excellence and leading by example with her own record-breaking billings. Several promotions later, she ultimately served as Vice President of Sales Operations, where she developed and implemented processes that fueled growth while mentoring and training her team to achieve similarly high levels of success through the years there.

Nicole’s professional career has been defined by her love for sales, operations, and building businesses from the ground up. She joined Talent Edge Group (formerly TGG Recruiting) to channel her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for startups, combining strategic operations, innovative processes, and a people-first approach to deliver exceptional results. Under her leadership, the firm has become a trusted partner for clients seeking transformative talent solutions.
